Background
The war of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971 not only
cost thousands of lives, but also rendered manymore
helpless and uprooted. Moreover, recurring floods,
cyclones, river-erosion and drought have made the
country one of the poorest and most helpless in the
world. Furthermore, it is known that Faridpur is one of
the poorest districts of this hard up country.
In the wake of economic hardship of the people of this
poverty-stricken Bangladesh, the Christian Missionaries
appeared to have turned enthusiastically active in
preaching Christianity among the members of
below-bread-line families. The Christians in the guise
of humanitarian service and under the camouflage of
rehabilitation, were resorting to convert the orphans
and the distressed people of this country into
Christianity. This is really catastrophic and alarming
in view of the fact that 90% of the population of
Bangladesh are the Muslims. Faridpur, one of the poorest
districts of the country, being inhabited mostly by the
poor and the illiterate, has unfortunately become prone
to such priestly menaces. This caused disappointment,
resentment and apprehension in the society.
But mere apprehension, resentment and invective desire
do not produce any positive result, unless we do
something concrete to the cause of the suffering
humanity.
It is a matter of great regret that very little could be
done to ameliorate the sufferings of the poor victims of
this situation, especially the unfortunate orphan
children uprooted through these catastrophies, both
natural & otherwise due to absence of adequate
institutionalized services in the backward Muslim
community. This is really unfortunate inview of the fact
that 80% of the population of Bangladesh are poor and
illiterate.
Therefore, to combat this situation, some susceptible
hearts, Intellectuals and philanthropic souls of
Faridpur founded 'Faridpur Muslim Mission'
in 1981, with a determination to fulfil some definite
objectives. This Mission aims at launching a
motivational drive for inspiring the well-to-do people
of the community to stand by the side of the suffering
humanity in general, and orphans & destitute children in
particular. As a part of its massive programme to
provide shelter, food and education to orphans and
destitute children of this region, Faridpur Muslim
Mission, immediately after its inception, instituted an
orphanage titled 'Faridpur Muslim Mission
Orphanage' in 1984.
